On Tuesday we had our workers at Willow Park harvest the maize crop which we planted in November of last year. It wasn’t a bad crop averaging about 1 cob per stalk with a few bearing 2 cobs. At the moment we have the cobs sitting on top of one of the rooves waiting to dry out and then by mid this week we should be able to take it to get grinded down into the mealie and use the left-over’s (cobs and the skins of the kernels) for the cow fodder. Praise God that we have been able to get this far and that we will be able to provide the girls at Samkele with mealie for a majority of ’08.
With the money saved from purchasing mealie for the girls at Samkele we will be able to purchase next seasons maize seed and we are endeavouring to create a larger crop (2 hectares) so that we can start to provide more mealie for other YFC ministries; then the following year create an even larger crop so that we can start to help others in the community … This is just SOOOOO exciting to see from just one donation (the money to create the maize crop) we can create a self sustaining crop / ministry / outreach that will continue to grow to help not just ourselves but others as well. WAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
What fantastic news!!!! It is so exciting back home to read what has happened, harvesting your first maize crop WOW!! God is good
Keep up the great work. You both are always in our thoughts and prayers. Love always xxxx0000
